SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS OF THE ONOMATOPOEIC WORDS IN THE KOREAN FOLK TALES

Abstract. Within the framework of the research the author tries to identify the functions of the onomatopoeic (sound- and image imitating) words in the context of a Korean folk tale. Thus, the article analyzes in detail the following onomatopoeism functions which were identified during the analysis of the Korean folk tales: sound-imitating function, descriptive function, function of economy of linguistic means, expressive and emotional function.
