FORMATION OF MODERN BRITISH NOVEL IN THE ERA OF THATCHERISM

Abstract. The article describes the situation of the British literature in a transition period marked by the rise of Margaret Thatcher to power. The paper presents the main political factors, cultural and social events associated with the influence of the phenomenon of monetarism and the new cultural spirit of the day on the status of the author and the novel. An attempt is made to summarize the different views on the process of the formation of the modern British novel in the context of post-modernist reality. Special attention is paid to the interaction of realistic method of narration with experimental forms.
