RITUAL CHARACTERISTICS OF A NOBEL SPEECH AS A GENRE OF SCIENTIFIC DISCOURSE

Abstract. The article examines Nobel Prize speeches as a genre which combines the characteristics of the scientific and ritual types of discourse. The author identifies and describes discursive elements of a Nobel speech genre (participants, chronotope, goals, values, strategies, precedent texts, discursive formulas). The paper supplements and analyzes pragma-linguistic characteristics of a ritual discourse in relation to a Nobel speech.
