Abstract. The article provides an analysis of the novel "Chicago" written in 2006 by the modern Egyptian writer Alaa Al-Aswany. The authors examine the themes, problems, system of images and language of the personages. They conclude that the social novel "Chicago" reveals the most relevant problems of modernity: East - West, man and power, feminism, discrimination.
