Abstract. The Yakut nicknames, recorded in various sources (in dictionaries, in onomasticons of historical and ethnographical materials, in Yasak lists and etc.), are the source for the study of ways of formation of contemporary Yakut personal names. The article attempts at revealing word-formative and form-building affixes in the Yakut nicknames by the material of "The Dictionary of the Yakut Language" by E. K. Pekarsky. In this connection the list of the Yakut nicknames from the Dictionary is selected and compiled. The author substantiates the statement that originally Yakut nicknames, having gone out of the use today, formed with the help of a word-formative affix - й to a large extent and had the stem of figurative verbs.
Key words and phrases: якутский язык, якутские прозвища, якутские имена, образные глаголы, словообразование, аффикс, антропоним, the Yakut language, the Yakut nicknames, the Yakut names, figurative verbs, word-formation, affix, anthroponym
