Abstract. The article discusses the question how to organize an independent work of students of non-linguistic specialties on the subject "Foreign Language" and thus to compensate insufficient quantity of hours, allowed for in-class learning. The effective forms of organizing the independent work are considered. The examples from the lecturers’ experience of the Penza State University are given.
