SOCIAL-LINGUISTIC FUNCTIONS OF SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL TERMS IN THE NOVEL "THE CITADEL" BY A. CRONIN

Abstract. The article considers the functioning of scientific terminology in the text of the work of art. The aims of terms introduction into literary text are revealed. One of the functions of terms - a sociolinguistic one - is described. Stylistic devices that contribute to the realistic description of reality are identified. It is emphasized that the introduction of highly specialized medical terms creates wide and sound understanding of social life in the mining town described in the novel "The Citadel" by A. Cronin.
