THE HISTORY OF RUSSIA OF THE XX CENTURY IN THE NOVEL BY A. MAKINE "REQUIEM FOR A LOST EMPIRE"

Abstract. The article analyzes the novel by the French writer A. Makine "Requiem for a Lost Empire", investigates the image of Russia and the Russian history of the XX century created by the writer. The special attention is paid to the period of revolution, Great Patriotic War. The author concludes that the history in the novel by A. Makine is represented as a sequence of continuous shocks which can be resisted by a Russian possessing such features of a national character as firmness, patience, ability for self-sacrifice.
