THE ARCHETYPE OF THE SUN IN M. TOURNIER'S NOVEL "FRIDAY, OR THE OTHER ISLAND"

Abstract. In the article the author studies the sun symbolics which is revealed in the novel of the French myth creator M. Tournier "Friday, or The Other Island". In the text the significance of the sun cult in different mythological systems, Christian tradition is seen, the transforming influence of the sun archetype on the thinking of Robinson, the main character of narration, is identified. Main ideas in the article are stated through the intertextual prism of the material presentation, the onomastic games with proper names in the work and the study of subject matter within the framework of spatio-temporal realia of the novel. The author's thoughts are presented against the broad culturological context.
