ARCHETYPE OF A NARRATOR IN THE OSSETIAN EPOS "NARTY"

Abstract. The article in the context of the world epos studies examines the archetype of a narrator in the image of Syrdon - a personage of Ossetian Nart sagas. Identity criteria revealed during attribution allow referring him to the "luminal" type of personality. The plot about invention of fandyr (twelve-string harp) closely associated with the name of Syrdon is interpreted as an act of "reverse sacrifice" resulted in the revision of relations in the "friend-or-foe" system.
