Abstract. In the article the strategies used by a teacher and a trainee in the process of communicative testing of reading as a receptive type of speech activity are considered, their advantages and disadvantages are analyzed. The requirements for the development of communicative tests in reading in a foreign language are formulated, the test structure in reading is suggested.
