RETURN TO FAITH: EVOLUTION OF CHRISTIAN IMAGERY IN V. ASTAFYEV'S PROSE

Abstract. In the article the evolution of V. Astafyev's world outlook from pantheism to Christianity is considered, the specificity and function of images, motifs which are gone back to Christian-Orthodox booklore are analyzed. The writer's final novel "The Cursed and the Slain" is examined in detail, the debatable nature of the writer's position in the considered work is emphasized.
