NEGATIVE CHARACTERS IN THE HEROIC EPOS OF THE BURYATS

Abstract. The images of the negative characters of the heroic epos of the Buryats - monsters-mangadkhais - are discussed in the article. The ideas about the place of their habitation localized in the epos outside human mastered space are studied for the first time. Particular attention is paid to the bipolar dual conception of the world order inherited by the archaic epos from myths. The author concludes that mangadkhais’ belonging to other extra-mundane chaotic world opposed to the socialized ordered space of epic heroes is clearly defined in the epos.
