BIOGRAPHICAL TENSE IN T. MANN’S NOVELLA "DEATH IN VENICE" AND ITS IMPLEMENTATION IN TRANSLATIONS IN RUSSIAN AND ENGLISH LANGUAGES

Abstract. The article analyzes the biographical tense of Thomas Mann’s novella "Death in Venice" and its implementation in the texts of translations in the Russian and English languages. The analysis is based on the model of translation tense, developed by L. V. Kushnina and I. N. Khaidarova, which allows evaluating the level of harmony achievement in the reproduction of the temporal meanings from the German language into the English and Russian ones. The reproduction of novella biographical tense meanings in the original and in the translation by language means will be determined by the specificity of tense perception in the relevant linguistic cultures.
