Abstract. The article is dedicated to considering the genre specificity of A. Ivanov’s novel "The Geographer Drank His Globe Away". The key issue is to determine its connection with bildungsroman traditions. It is shown that the novel plot structure is created through the synthesis of a number of similar situations occurring repeatedly in "school" bildungsromans. It is proved that the genre canon of soviet bildungsroman is transformed by travestying literary models and clich?s.
