Abstract. The article is devoted to such important direction of modern linguistic researches as a text. In particular, the phenomenon of a recipient is considered as a separate textual category. The prerequisites (address of linguistics to the anthropocentric paradigm of scientific knowledge and the formation of a number of new directions in the study of language) that condition the possibility of such selection are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the role of this category in a literary text.
