Abstract. The attempts to describe the principles of naming were previously undertaken within the framework of onomastic researches, but researchers used chronologically dispersed nominal material of the same type. The article presents the analysis that describes a new principle of naming, combining the poetic form of genealogy records according to the rules of alliteration with the laws of phonosthesia. Furthermore, the author bases her analysis on the diverse and chronologically integral material of the archive of Winchester city.
