SYNTACTIC MEANS FOR EXPRESSING AUTHOR’S MODALITY IN THE NOVEL BY I. A. BUNIN "THE LIFE OF ARSENIEV"

Abstract. The article examines the problem of modality as a category of literary text by the material of the novel by I. A. Bunin. From the viewpoint of genre originality of a literary work the paper analyzes syntactic means for expressing author’s modality: monologic nature of a narration; constructions associated with the concept "memory"; semantic contrast of a chronotope; intertextuality; rhetorical, meditative questions; exclamatory sentences as speech signals of subjectivity of judgments and valuations of a narrator.
