Abstract. The article presents itself a cross-cultural investigation within the framework of literary criticism and history of world culture. The author introduces a definition of a genre of bestiary and identifies its role in the world culture and literature. The paper analyzes various hypostases of an image of a dolphin and its interpretation in the novels-anti-utopias "The Breath of the Gods" and "The Mystery of the Gods" by the modern French writer-post-modernist Bernard Werber from the viewpoint of developing an ideal utopian society. The researcher emphasizes the vitro-cultural interaction of post-modernist texts with the texts of the previous times and identifies the deep symbolic, semantic and heraldic meaning of an image of a dolphin for the world culture in general and for B. Werber’s creative work in particular.
