Abstract. The article is devoted to the poetics of Bunin’s sonnet that was forming at the turn of the 1890-1900s. During that period the poet strived for the harmony of epic and lyric, overcoming the endured antinomy of the deliberateness and spontaneity of creative process. Interest in sonnet aroused not because of aspiration for strophic repertory expansion, but due to the need to find a form answering to the complicated understanding of the world. The tendency to the accuracy and conciseness of expression finds its logical completion in sonnet with its laconism.
