BACK TO ANTIQUITY, OR A REMEDY FOR THE EPOCH FIN DE SI?CLE FROM OSCAR WILDE

Abstract. The end of the XIX century is characterized as a decadent epoch associated with decay, degeneration which, according to Wilde and Nietzsche, is conditioned by the orientation to the material values, prevalence of rational decisions. One of the features of decadence, according to Wilde and Nietzsche, is nihilism. The views of the English writer are obviously similar to the ideas of stoics who suggested a path of self-perfection, following the divine will. In the first tragedy "Vera, or, The Nihilists" Wilde associates the overcoming of nihilistic aspirations with the humanistic values, in the last play, "Salome", he claims it impossible to continue living if it is not rested on the wisdom of the ancient philosophy.
