Abstract. In the article the composition structure features of H. de Balzac’s "Droll Stories" are considered; its connection with the classical short story structure, which founder was G. Boccaccio, and with the structure of the novel "The Life of Gargantua and of Pantagruel" by F. Rabelais is observed. The author concludes that Balzac preserves the classical short story composition model in the literary work under consideration. Special attention is given to composition variants, which differ from the standard composition scheme of short story genre.
