FEATURES OF ADVERBIAL MODIFICATION IN ADJECTIVAL GROUP IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract. The article considers the features of adverbial modification in the adjectival group. The application of cognitive-semantic approach to the analysis of modification process allows revealing that in addition to the direct modification of an attribute expressed by an adjective, the adverb represents the orientation and evaluation of the speaker. The comparison of modification mechanism in verbal and adjectival groups shows that the semantics of the adverbial modifier is projected onto the several participants of situation, and the adverb performs the function of wild profile intensifier for attributive words.
