Abstract. The author pays special attention to the analysis of cat image in the Chinese written tradition, and by the example of Lao She's work "Notes on cat city", where cat archetypal image is most clearly embodied, shows that this motif is allegorical in nature and appears as "image-symbol" in the novel.
