IS HAPPINESS REALLY IN WIT OR "WIT WORKS WOE"? (CONCEPTUALIZATION IN THE RUSSIAN COGNITIVE PICTURE OF THE WORLD)

Abstract. The author considers the interaction of language and non-language knowledge about wit, its qualification as happiness or woe in the Russian cognitive picture of the world, determines the factors, motivating conceptualization and its change. Factual material shows that the crystallization of the man’s most important ideas about the world occurs in the language (it is a motivated process); language units meanings represent non-language knowledge, perform a symbolic, deictic function with respect to it.
