USE OF ARTISTIC DEVICE IN REVEALING USURPATION THEME IN PLAY "THE INNOCENT USURPER: OR DEATH OF LADY JANE GREY" BY JOHN BANKS

Abstract. The article considers the theme of succession to the throne by the example of the play "The Innocent Usurper: or Death of Lady Jane Grey" by D. Banks, which was of vital importance for England of the XVII th century. The playwright comments on Succession Crisis, suggesting a possible scenario of a doomsday for Catholics and developing the theme of usurpation. The writer pays special attention to the use of artistic means and symbolic images that help the reader "get closer" to the hero, "dramatically" present the events of the play, and "feel" the atmosphere of the time. The author analyzes the integrity creation of the work by means of figurative means.
