ON COGNITIVE-SEMANTIC MECHANISMS OF ZEUGMA AND PLAY ON WORDS

Abstract. The article considers the role of polysemy in creating expressive stylistic devices – zeugma and play on words. The correlation between the structure of events and the possibilities of its different types actualization in linguistic units with expressive component is determined while conducting the cognitive-semantic analysis of these figures of speech. The cognitive-semantic mechanism of these devices, which is differentiated depending on the specificity of prototypical event structure violation, or on the changes in the picture of reality perception, is revealed.
