THOMAS MANN AND JAMES JOYCE: FEATURES OF MYTHOLOGICAL POETICS

Abstract. The author covers mythological motives use in the works of two outstanding writers of the ХХth century: Th. Mann and J. Joyce, whose interest to mythology is contextualized in the European literary and cultural tradition, draws parallels between the ways of mythological method use in Ulysses by J. Joyce, Buddenbrooks and Death in Venice by Th. Mann, and pays special attention to the role of irony in the mythological representation of reality in the literature of the XXth century.
