GIL VICENTE'S THEATRE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE PHILOSOPHY OF CHRISTIAN MIDDLE AGES: THE STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Abstract. The article is devoted to Gil Vicente's creativity who was the first professional Portuguese playwright. The attempt is made to define typologically its place in the artistic culture of the XVIth century, connecting his creativity with the basic questions of Christian medieval outlook. On the example of "The ship of hell" the moments of connection are demonstrated which for a long time coexisted in the consciousness of medieval Christian and humanistic elements. The task to consider the world outlook and the aesthetic guidelines of the spectators of Gil Vicente's theatre is put forward.
