Abstract. Sergei Prokofiev’s art is a very many-sided and diverse phenomenon. One of the hypostases of his early work was associated with a special, highly unusual artistic phenomenon, which entered the annals of the history of culture at the beginning of the XX century under the name "Scythianism". An unexpected turn of this imagery was in connection with the revolutionary events in Russia in1917 in the cantata "Seven of Them" - the meaning of what is happening in it can be imagined as a grand rite of violent overthrow. The same theme received a completely different solution in the 1930s in "The Cantata to the XX Anniversary of October", in which an indirect display was given to the actual events of the first half of the 1930s, when the contours of the way of life and state system of the "Stalin era" developed. In the second half of this decade the opera "Semyon Kotko" was created, where through the lenses of one of the episodes of the Civil War Prokofiev managed to record highly accurately the pictures of national life. Such were the three extremely contrasting responses of an outstanding composer to the epochal breakdown of times that occurred in the history of the country at the turn of the 1920s.
