Abstract. The article is devoted to the examination of the creation of the mother’s image in the autobiographical work "Pas pleurer" ("Don’t Cry!") by the contemporary French writer Lydie Salvayre. The language, which the mother-Catalan Montse speaks, the description of her appearance and the important themes of her life perception - "joy" and "love" - play a significant role in her image. The conclusions of the study can be used in the investigation of characters’ images in other autobiographical and fiction works.
