Abstract. The article examines the legal norms of ancient Eastern sources and Roman law regulating relations between the subjects of consumer relations. By the example of the Code of Hammurabi, the Manusm?ti and Justinian’s Digest the authors describe legal regulation in the sphere of consumers’ rights protection. The paper provides examples of precedents in the sphere of consumers’ rights protection when buying goods in the archaic law, which laid foundation for further development of consumer law. The researchers draw parallels with the modern Russian legislation.
