Abstract. The article is devoted to the issue of the reclamation of the overflow lands and estuaries of the Kuban-Protoka interfluve for rice cultivation. The author examines the history of the construction of Petrovskaya-Anastasievskaya irrigation system - one of the largest irrigation systems of the Kuban region - and the beginning of work on designing and building Chernoerkovskaya rice irrigation system. Draining the cis-Azov region overflow lands in the second half of the XX century not only allowed increasing the area of the irrigated lands tenfold, but also gave a stimulus to the appearance of new inhabited localities on the map of Slavyansk district, which had developed from the towns of the virgin lands workers and rice growers.
