Abstract. The article is devoted to the clarification of the motives of establishing Alexander the Great cult in the Greek towns of Asia Minor (the coastal area and isles adjacent to it). Besides, according to the author of the work, establishing the cult of Alexander in Asia Minor Greek communities was also caused by the feeling of gratitude for the fact that the Macedonian monarch had set the population free from the unpopular rule of both the Persians and pro-Persian minded local oligarchs and tyrants, and equally for the fact that these towns had got general and special benefits from him.
