Abstract. The article is devoted to one of the key concepts of the history of European philosophy - the concept of form. The author examines the basic definitions of this concept in the history of philosophy, highlights their strengths and weaknesses. As the main paradigm the paper reveals two different understandings of philosophical reflection - Thales’s and Anaximander’s ones, demonstrates their further development in the history of philosophy. The article also determines the role of consciousness in the development of form and sensory perception.
