SUBSTANTIATION OF HISTORY WRITING AUTONOMY IN MICHAEL OAKESHOTT’S PHILOSOPHICAL-HISTORICAL CONCEPTION

Abstract. The article analyzes interpretation of historical cognition in Michael Oakeshott’s conception. The issue on correlation of historical and practical ways of the past understanding is thoroughly explored. Novelty of this interpretation of history writing in Oakeshott’s conception is that history is regarded as a special type of experience, not reducible either to practical activity or to aesthetic contemplation. The author identifies some contradictions in interpretation of historical writing suggested by Oakeshott.
