CHINA IN THE FIRST POST-REVOLUTIONARY DECADE (THE 1950S): THE BASIC PROBLEMS AND CONTRADICTIONS

Abstract. The article aims to analyze the orientation of the socio-economic and political development of the People’s Republic of China in the first post-revolutionary decade (the 1950s). The problem of changing economic models is considered against the background of enhancing Mao Zedong’s personality cult. The author analyzes the political strategy of Maoism, evaluates the level of the democratization of the People’s Republic of China under the conditions of the repressive mechanism formation and the realization of the large-scale "Great Stride" economic programmes.
