Abstract. The article deals with the tetralogy of Shostakovich’s military symphonies (from the Sixth to the Ninth), which appeared in 1939-1945. Each of them is endowed with its own unique style and recreates the atmosphere of the corresponding stage of the military epopee by means of musical art. During these years a lot of other composers wrote symphonies in parallel with Shostakovich, but only he was destined to create the chronicle of the war years, the grandest in relation of thought and universal in relation of content, in his symphonic tetralogy.
