SEMANTIC MOTIVATION OF LEXICAL NOMINATIONS OF FIRE IN THE ANCIENT ICELANDIC LANGUAGE

Abstract. The article reveals the linguistic-culturological causes of the existence of multiple nominations of fire in the Ancient Icelandic language. The author shows why such phenomenon as fire required a large number of different-root nominations, as well as variations of the same root. The paper identifies the culturological and mythological prerequisites of the appearance of eight main Ancient Icelandic nominations of fire.
