EXISTENTIAL ESSENCE OF SCIENCE: PHILOSOPHICAL ESSAY

Abstract. The article analyzes the socio-cultural, historical-philosophical and metaphysical aspects of science. The author disengages herself from the usual utilitarian-pragmatic interpretation of science and focuses on the understanding of its existential component. Much attention is paid to the explication of the new European origins of contemporary science. In conclusion the paper reveals dialectical, ambivalent nature of scientific-technical "ratio".
