Abstract. The article discusses the problem of external transverse magnetic field application for the control of coatings formation process during their plasma spraying. The author investigates the influence of external magnetic field on the quality indices of resulting coatings and the performance indicators of spraying process. It is shown that the forced change of electric arc position in plasmatron arc channel with the help of magnetic field enables to realize the spatial coordination of the mass transfer channels of the gas and solid phases of gas-powder flow and, as a result, to increase significantly the utilization factor of dispersed material, reduce the porosity of coating and increase the strength of its adhesion with the basis.
