Abstract. This article examines "think tanks" evolution in the USA as a special organizational form of expert-analytical institutions in relation to events in the social, economic, political and intellectual spheres of the American society. The author focuses particular attention on the periodization of their formation and development process and comes to the conclusion that there is an organic interconnection of the American "think tanks" institution and the existing network of the channels of influence on the USA politicians.
