Abstract. In the article the historical-comparative analysis of progress conceptions by the prominent representatives of the Russian populism – A. I. Gertsen, N. G. Chernyshevskii, M. A. Bakunin, P. N. Tkachev – is presented. The essential feature of their conceptions was the tendency to construct progress theory basing on "historical ground", the characteristic features of Russia development. However if Gertsen and Chernyshevskii aspired to include Russia historical development into regular process, the conceptions by Bakunin and Tkachev were notable for some radicalism.
