Abstract. The composition and biotope denotation of species, the population characteristics of whelks’ fauna in the former riverbed of the river Sozh are considered. The interconnection of the ecological factors, which define the specificity of whelks’ species composition is shown. It is noted that in the assemblage of different biotopes whelks’ species structures differ greatly. It indicates that recreation load influences much the ecological environment of the biotopes under research. The evaluations of species variety and the broken state of biocenosis with the use of Shannon’s variety index and Piel’s uniformity coefficient are received.
