Abstract. In recent years the transition from the accumulation and analysis of numerous and scattered data about air crashes reasons to the creation of the general theory of flight safety has been outlined. The statistic and probabilistic indexes of air crashes reasons are used for the quantitative assessment of aircrafts flight safety level. The analysis of the failures and defects of aircraft equipment items allows using different methods of their operation.
