Abstract. Teaching a foreign language is aimed at the complex development of students’ communicative, cognitive, informational, sociocultural, professional and general cultural competences. Competence formation efficiency depends on understanding its essence, structure and content. In this article the essence, structure and content of sociocultural competence are considered.
